I'm a 61 year old woman, married, no children and one cat. I dreamt that I was living in a strange house that had a gated garden. In the garden was a dog that everyone said was dangerous - it was a beautiful black & white border collie that didn't seem threatening to me. In fact, I felt sorry for how it was being treated. The keepers only fed it and gave it water, but no attention at all. Finally, I decided to sit by the gate - it came over to me immediately and seemed very friendly. Suddenly it turned from a border collie to a Pomeranian. I was able to move some of the gate so that I could pet her - she craved attention, and wasn't aggressive at all. I decided right then she would be my dog and told the keepers. But my problem is, I have a cat that wouldn't do well with a dog, so I couldn't take her home yet. I told the keepers that I would take care of her until I could figure something out. Then somehow in the dream I must have fallen asleep (in my dream) and when I woke up, it was very early. I was super groggy but knew I had to feed my dog, so I got up. My hair was sticking up, my makeup was smeared and I was only wearing a t shirt and underwear. As I went to the kitchen, the former keepers were laughing at me, but I kept saying, I need to feed the dog. Then I woke up (for real).
Your dream is a vivid tapestry of symbolic elements, reflecting your subconscious thoughts, emotions, and possibly even life situations. Let's break it down:
Strange House: Often, a house in a dream represents the self or the dreamer's state of mind. The fact that you are in a "strange house" might suggest that you're currently navigating through unfamiliar or unexpected situations in your life. This setting can denote a place of transition or change.
Gated Garden: A garden typically symbolizes personal growth, potential, and your inner state of peace and harmony. The gated aspect of the garden may imply feelings of restriction or protection, perhaps indicating areas of your life where you feel guarded or restrained.
The Dog: Dogs in dreams often represent loyalty, protection, and intuition. The border collie, known for its intelligence and friendliness, may denote qualities or situations in your life that others perceive as dangerous or unwise but you see differently.
Perceived Danger vs. Reality: The discrepancy between what others say about the dog and your own experience with it highlights your intuitive understanding or insight into situations that others might misjudge. It can also symbolize external pressures or opinions not aligning with your own.
Transformation into a Pomeranian: The transformation of the dog from a border collie to a more playful and less threatening Pomeranian suggests a shift in perspective or reality, demonstrating how your perception allows you to see beyond the surface. It represents finding gentleness and joy where others see danger or threat.
Adopting the Dog: Your desire to take care of the dog despite the potential trouble with your cat may symbolize your nurturing nature, your ability to care for others, and your willingness to incorporate more companionship or new responsibilities into your life, even if they require adjustments.
Dream Within a Dream: Dreaming that you fall asleep and wake up in the same dream could indicate layers of awareness or the sense of being trapped in a cycle. It may suggest introspection, needing to go deeper to uncover what exactly is calling out for attention in your subconscious.
Grogginess and Appearance: The state of being groggy and concerned about feeding the dog despite your appearance suggests a focused dedication or a priority you hold dear. This priority could signify everyday responsibilities or a new commitment that feels essential and drives you to action, even when you're not at your best.
Keepers Laughing: The laughter from the keepers can symbolize outside judgment or opinions that you might feel subject to. However, your perseverance in attending to the dog indicates your determination and strength in pursuing what you believe is important.
Overall, your dream beautifully encapsulates themes of nurturing, change, and the care you take in relationships or responsibilities, even in the face of outside opinions or internal challenges. It suggests a burgeoning desire to embrace new opportunities or companions, suggesting growth and adaptability.
